yoga for disordered eating and body image
for children, adolescents and families
Real talk...it's rough out there right now.
This era of social media "influencing" has made it near impossible for us to escape the mounting pressure to fit the narrow molds set by diet culture and beauty standards. Even if they're not active on social media, our children are being constantly exposed to dangerous trends and rhetoric around health, wellness, & beauty. And we are already reaping the consequences.

Here's what we know:
✸Studies have shown about 22% of children & adolescents worldwide have shown signs of disordered eating.
✸Children are expressing dissatisfaction with their bodies/appearance as early as age 3.
✸Eating disorders are the second deadliest mental illness of all time (opioid addiction is #1).

✸Suicide is the leading cause of death in eating disorders, with attempt rates of approx. 23% in bulimia & binge eating disorder, and 31% in anorexia nervosa.
✸Children are 242 (no, that's not a typo) times more likely to develop an eating disorder than Type 2 Diabetes, according to Alissa Rumsey, RDN. Yet the latter is taken seriously & treated as a much higher threat (along with the "obesity epidemic") in school health education.
Here's what we also know:
Early intervention is key when it comes to recovery.
And recovery is possible.

It's time we started taking this WAY more seriously. It's time we stopped normalizing shame, guilt, & obsession over food and our bodies.
Because if the young children in our lives are proof of anything, it's that it's NOT normal, or natural. We were not born to judge and shame our bodies.

Let's do right by our kids, and by ourselves. Let's build a world where total health and wellbeing starts from the inside, where our bodies and food are our friends, not enemies.
Together.

working with cami
Step 1: Determine your child's eligibility.
All of the following must be true:
-
Your child is currently or willing to start working with a Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN), Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS), and/or licensed therapist (*REFERRALS AVAILABLE)
-
Your child has been cleared for movement by one of these health care professionals and they are no longer in an acute/severe stage of recovery
-
Your child is discharged from / not entered into residential or inpatient treatment or partial hospitalization programs (PHP)
-
You are able to commit your time & finances to at least four months' worth of weekly or biweekly individual and family sessions
Step 2: Schedule your free Zoom consultation.
This is a zoom meeting where we get to know each other a little more & see if it's a good fit. I start by talking to both parents (if it's a 2 parent household), then with your child 1:1, then we conclude with the whole family. There is no obligation to book a session during or after the consultation.
Fill out the contact form below or email Cami directly at camicodellyoga@gmail.com
Step 3: Fill out this INTAKE FORM before your consultation.
Everything you share about yourself, your child, & your family will remain secure and confidential.
Step 4: Meet Cami & Schedule Sessions
If we decide during your consultation to work together, we schedule both individual & family sessions on a weekly or regular basis. Duration is typically 60-minute sessions. At the first session we will sign a provider-client agreement. Sessions are held in person at Evanston or Glenview studios, subject to availability.

There are three types of therapeutic yoga sessions:
-
Initial mandatory parent-only sessions (2-3). During these sessions, you will be provided with education, coaching, & embodiment practices for supporting both your child and yourself during your child's recovery. All parents/legal guardians must be present. Completion of these sessions is required before your child can begin yoga.
-
Regular individual therapeutic yoga with your child. Weekly frequency is typically recommended but can/may depend on intake/consultation.
-
Semi-regular family therapeutic yoga with parent(s) & child. Monthly frequency is typically recommended but can/may depend on intake/consultation. This session can replace the child's individual session for that week (ex: every 4th session is a family session).
